The stadium that is   usually dressed in blue, wore white and red stripes instead   as San Jose received Mexican Powerhouse, Chivas de Guadalajara defeated Monarcas Morelia, 2-1, in a friendly match.  With every seat almost filled, fans of all ages were present to see Liga MX sides collide in a match that usually takes place in Mexico. Avaya Stadium is the home of the San Jose Earthquakes, however with all of the red and white throughout the stadium it felt like a home game for Chivas. Drums, Chivas flags, thrown toilet paper on the goals and red and screaming fans were all part of the entertainment throughout the night. The San Jose Earthquakes were back home on Saturday night against Sporting Kansas City after snatching a point in Colorado last week.  In a crucial game against 6th place Kansas City, the Earthquakes were in dire need of a victory with just six games to go in the season before playoffs begin in October. Although the Earthquakes dominated most of the game, the team fell short, losing 2-1 after conceding a late goal in the 80th minute. “ It’s killer to be honest,” said San Jose Earthquakes Head Coach Dominic Kinnear. “ With them [Sporting KC] now being nine points ahead of us … we have to put together a run of wins that we haven’t done this year so it’s going to take a monumental effort.” The game began quickly when the Earthquakes drove the ball down the middle of the field and had an opportunity in front of goal in the first 20 seconds. For the whole month of June ,  Copa America swept the nation for its 100th anniversary in its Copa America Centenario.   For the Bay Area that meant attention from fans from across the world who saw global soccer stars go at it on the pitch of  Levi’s Stadium  in Santa Clara, California. The tournament became famous in South America in 1916, where only teams from the region were   allowed to play. However this time around ,  it was different.  Not only did Copa America bring world renowned soccer stars together, but it also brought fans and media attention back to the Bay Area since February when it hosted Super Bowl 50. From June 3 to June 26 CONCACAF (the football confederation for North and Central America and the Caribbean) and CONMEBOL (the South America football confederation), joined together to celebrate 100 years of this tournament allowing fans in the U.S. to take part in the celebration for the first time in its history.  P...

Mexico has now qualified to the quarterfinals with the victory Thursday night at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The team came into the match after a surprising 3-1 win over Uruguay. Nothing but perfection was expected from Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez and the rest of the Mexican team coming into the game against Jamaica. As soon as the whistle blew, the match turned into a battle between both sides. The U.S. national team, and the host nation of the Copa America Centenario 2016, entered the match on the brink of elimination in Group A and now control their own destiny heading into their final match against Paraguay. Some pressure from U.S. Soccer President, Sunil Gulati, was lifted off of U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann’s shoulders after the win. Just before the match had begun, Gulati told a small group of reporters that the results since the beginning of 2015 have not been good enough. “ The results over the last 18 months, overall, have not been what we would've hoped for -- especially in the official competitions," Gulati said in an interview just hours before the match.
